Donating Items to Soham Museum
If you have any items of local or social interest such as; photographs, documents, maps, or artefacts which you think will make an interesting contribution to our museum collection or archive, we would be delighted to hear from you via email@example.com. or come and meet us at one of our coffee mornings at Soham Library between 10-12 on the first Saturday of each month.
We are interested in all aspects of Soham life; our agricultural heritage; our fenland heritage; our businesses and industries, and of course the families that lived here. In 2014 we are commemorating two significant historic events; the 70th Anniversary of the Soham Rail Disaster and the saving of Soham and the 100th Anniversary of the start of World War I and would be particularly interested to hear from people who had family living in Soham during either event who might have family experiences and stories to share. We are hosting a special event to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Soham Rail Disaster on Tuesday 3rd June at The Brook, Soham in conjunction with the Ely and District Model Railway Club; and we are taking part in the Soham Town Council Lest We Forget event commemorating Soham's contribution to the Great War on Sunday 3rd August on The Recreation Ground, Soham. If you have anything you think might contribute to the exhibitions we are holding at these events, we would be delighted to hear from you.
We have a growing collection of books, maps, artefacts, documents and photographs relating to Soham and the surrounding area, and we are always delighted to add items to our archives, even in copy form. We hear so many stories from people who have thrown away items that might have been of local interest, we would urge you to think of us when you are having a clear our. If you are not sure about something, please let us have a look at it first - you might be surprised at what you have unearthed!
Our collectors policy is very straightforward. We will assess each item offered to us on its own merit. We do accept items which other museums turn away, and we are non date specific as long as the item is of museum quality or contributes to our archive and has some value in local and/or social history. We do not usually pay for items offered to us but are happy to consider purchasing items of local interest from time to time.
